Doug is a cute 7 year old boy with a curly golden coat. At his first Meet and Greet he was friendly with dogs and humans and solicited belly rubs from anyone who would give him attention.
Unfortunately Doug does not do well with small children. He once lived with a family who allowed their children to pull his ears, pull on his fur, hug him too hard, and jump on his crate. He became so scared of them that he only came out of his crate at night to eat. At the end he started snapping at the children when they would get too close. He will not go after them, but if they come to him and he feels threatened, he will snap. This only happens with small children that do not know how to handle an animal with care. Even if he snaps, he is gentle trying to warn rather than injure. Usually when he sees small children he will hide or go to his crate.
Doug would do well with children that are old enough to make him feel secure and understand how to handle an animal. He can go pretty much anywhere. If he gets out he will obey to come back.
He enjoys being with people and he likes to play with other dogs. He feels safe in his crate so he goes into it on his own or when told to do so.
