Sam is a 9 month old male Cocker Spaniel. He is tri-colored, mostly black with brown and white on his face and paws. He is very energetic and requires daily exercise. If he is not exercised he can be destructive by chewing anything that is left out for him to find, shoes, clothing, cushions, etc. He loves to go for walks but does need more leash training.
Sam gets very excited when he sees new people or dogs and will often pull on the leash to get to the person or dog and may bark and snap, but once he gets comfortable with the situation he will calm down. He seems to be bored with older dogs and will go about his own business and ignore them. If he finds a younger energetic dog like himself he will bark and want to play. He snaps and nips as a way of playing, but this can scare other dogs and they may try to bite him back. He has gotten into a few scuffles at the dog park so his foster mom has been walking him on a leash and keeping him close by her to avoid contact with people or other dogs.
Sam could definitely use training to learn how to behave around other dogs and people. He needs to be in a family with an owner who is assertive and dedicated to teaching him. He would do best in a home with a calm, older dog. He would not do well with small children until he has more training on interacting with them. Sam will need to be with someone who has time to exercise him daily.
Samís issues are mostly part of being an energetic puppy who just needs basic training and people skills. He is a sweet, loving dog. He will follow you around and give you kisses. He loves soft and squeaky toys, food, going for walks, riding in the car and chasing birds and squirrels. He sleeps through the night and will rarely have accidents inside. He is obedient, will sit on command and has good manners in regards to eating and taking treats.
