Introducing Sweet Sophia!
Sophia is a super, super, sweet girl. If you are looking for a smart, incredibly loving cuddle bug to keep you company, then Sophia is probably a girl for you! She has been vetted and is ready to find her final, permanent home. Could that be with you?
Sophia has naturally petite features but could stand to lose a little bit of weight. She recently had ACL surgery and has been given her medical all clear so she can finally start to increase her exercise which should help with weight loss. She was even released a week early because she healed quickly and was such a good little trooper!
Sophia is an owner surrender. One parent was stationed abroad on assignment and her other parent was flying back and forth and staying for months at a time. They could not leave her here and they did not want her to have to endure the risk of traveling in the cargo section on international flights, so they made the painful decision to ask DFWCSR to find her a new home. While sad, they did what they thought was best for her. She is very attentive and quickly learned and adapted to the routine in her foster home. She was also very quick to feel comfortable enough to bark to let her foster mom know when someone was on the property and did so in just a couple days. Her foster mom says her eyesight and hearing are excellent!
Sophia is 9 years old but does not act like it. Sure she likes to cuddle on the couch with you, but the minute you move she is off and going wherever you go. She easily jumps up and down off the couch although her foster mommie is teaching her how to use some pet stairs instead. She is truly a little cuddle bug and simply cannot give you enough kisses! And while she has her favorites, she has never met a treat she did not like.
Sophia will need a home where she can be loved and adored and can be allowed to reciprocate. Because she recently had surgery, her exercise level will need to be gradual. She will never make a good running buddy. She tends to pull when on a leash but her foster mom says she is much better if you put her in a harness. She LOVES be able to run freely around the back yard and chase the birds, squirrels and those pesky rabbits. She has been great with her foster sister and wants to do everything she does. With her medical release, she recently got to go to the groomer and did very well at her appointment.
Sophiaís foster mom does not have a doggie door so she cannot test her knowledge of using one, however, she has jingle bells hanging on the door and Sophia immediately learned how to ring them and has been ringing them to let her foster mom know when she needs to go outside. Her foster mom thinks she will probably be able to learn how to use one very quickly.
Sophia is a people food lover and she loves to supervise in the kitchen. Of course her favorite thing has been her foster momís meatloaf but she has done well eating her kibble too.
Sophia is house trained and crate trained, but after being allowed out of the crate after a 2 month recuperation period, she is not super fond of having to spend time in it right now. She does not really play with toys but appears to love pillows! She is showing signs of wanting to sleep on the bed but for now, her foster mom has kept her in the crate at night where she receives her favorite treat of the day, dehydrated chicken. She would love it if you would let her sleep with you. She has not had many car rides but has done well in the car. Right now she tends to be a little more pensive when you are leaving the house but is much better on the return ride, probably because she is a little afraid of being taken somewhere and left behind. That will definitely change in time and with practice.
Sophia tends to be a little possessive of her foster mom and occasionally towards food so it would be best if her new home did not have small children. She has been really good with her cocker spaniel foster sister, but would probably love being an only child and having you all to herself if possible or have siblings that are willing to let her share your lap and your heart.
Will you please consider giving this sweet baby a home?
