About
Due to the current situation with the COVID-19 (Corona) virus, in-person home visits are not possible at this time. Since this is a very important part of finding the best home for our dogs, we are not accepting any applications from first-time pet owners, applicants who have not had a pet in the past 3 years, or applicants who cannot furnish vet records. We hope you understand and that you will consider applying to adopt once the shelter-in-place restrictions have been lifted.
Lacy is approximately 15 months old, buff in color and average size for a Cocker Spaniel who has been well cared for. She is extremely loving and affectionate, but she’s a bit confused from leaving her home right now. She might take a day or two to settle in and show her warm personality. She will quickly become attached to her new family and become that Velcro dog following you constantly about the house.
Lacy is not food aggressive, but if Foster Mom is eating or having a snack, she will growl/lunge at the other dogs to keep them away. She can also be people possessive and needs to be watched and corrected immediately. Due to this and her Alpha personality, Lacy would do best as an only dog or with a home with only one other dog where the owner will know to control these situations and watch for her warning signals (know her triggers!) to stop/correct them before she reacts to another dog. This behavior can be corrected with the right owner and training.
Lacy is kennel trained, but she may bark if left in her kennel (if kenneled for a long period of time, an apartment may not be ideal). She prefers to sleep on the bed with her people. She also knows how to use a dog door, but prefers to only go outside when her people take her out. She needs to be taken outside on a regular basis to avoid accidents.
Lacy is a bit of a picky eater, she likes wet food so Foster Mom has to combine dry food with wet food made into a ‘gravy’.
Lacy was initially scared when she arrived in her Foster home and immediately looked for an escape under the fence so she needs to be kept on leash when outside at all times until she starts to trust/show affection. By the end of the first day, Lacy was already showing her sweetness giving Foster Mom kisses and by late evening she was no longer looking for an escape. To be safe, good fencing at ground level will be needed.
