Rocky

About

I guess the best way to describe Rocky was the fact that 90% of the time we called him sweet boy and the rest of the time he was sweetest sweet boy. He had such a gentle heart. The first time we saw him Ernie and I looked at each other and thought, “hmm.” However, once a dog is in our presence the chances of us saying no are slim and I am so glad we did not.

Rocky was some dog. He acclimated quickly to our home, or should I say our home acclimated quickly to him. It was a great blessing to see how he recognized our house when we were out walking and began heading home. He knew where he belonged. He had his cubbies all around the house where he would sleep, but his favorite place was in Ernie’s office wrapped around his chair, so the moment Ernie moved Rocky would know. After all there could be a snack involved and usually was. He and Ernie shared toast together every morning first thing.

Rocky was woven into every moment of our days. My dog sitter called him Velcro because he was always next to you. When he still was able to see fairly well, he loved watching TV. He would sit on the couch resting on a pillow and when an animal came on the screen he would jump down and bark, then return to his post to await the next “intruder.”

We were grateful to be able to care for him as his health declined. It meant diapers, lots of clean up, early morning wake ups, guiding him in the right direction, special food, medicine, and other things. Actually, a very small price to pay for such an amazing dog. It was a privilege to care for him.
