DFWCSR is dedicated to finding forever homes for each and every dog we have in our rescue. We have an application process that we have used for many years that helps us make the best possible decision for every Cocker. This process includes an in-person home visit for every applicant.
Our goal is to find loving and forever homes for every rescued Cocker Spaniel. To that end we have developed an adoption application and process to help us identify the best homes for these wonderful dogs. Most volunteers have their own Cocker kids and are familiar with situations and environments in which Cocker Spaniels do best. Furthermore, our foster parents have had our adoptable Cocker kids in their homes and have learned something about their personality. We do our best to match the dog’s personality and behaviors with the new family’s lifestyle and environment. We do this, again, to protect the dogs and make sure the dog and the family can live together forever.
If you are ready to move forward with an adoption, please:
Read our rules for Consideration for Adoption.
Then complete and submit our application and sign our contract.
After we get the application, we may request a vet reference or personal references and we might require a home visit/consultation. We usually do all that pretty quickly, however be patient as all our volunteers usually have full time jobs and families etc. If everything is ok then the hard part starts…you have to pick which one of our beautiful Cocker Kids to take home!
Start by looking at our pictures and reading our stories. If you want to know more about a particular fur kid, or if you want to visit one, leave a message on the Cocker Rescue answering machine at 972-994-1133 or e-mail us at [email protected]. After you apply and are approved for adoption, we’ll put you in touch with the foster parent and you can set up a meeting with them. As we mentioned, our fosters know their Cocker and what kind of environment is best for them. Therefore, the foster has the final decision on placement of their fostered dog.
HOW MUCH? Cocker Spaniel Rescue takes each dog to get vaccinated, spayed or neutered and tested for heart worms before they can be adopted. If a dog is in need of extended veterinary care, we provide that treatment. All of this costs money and we need help covering these expenses so we can continue to rescue more beautiful Cocker Spaniels!
Please note our updated Adoption Fee Schedule, effective October 1, 2023.
- Puppies less than 7 months, registered – $450
- Puppies less than 7 months – $375
- Adults 7 months to 7 years – $300
- Experienced adults 8 to 10 years – $175
- Seniors 11+ years – $75
PLEASE NOTE: We are volunteers that do rescue as time permits. Please allow 48 hours to process your application and to get a response. Your response will be sent either via email or a phone call, but a response will be sent to you. If you don’t hear from us in 48 hours, contact us at [email protected]. We will then check on the status of your application.
After the Adoption
Once you’ve been approved and the adoption is complete, please keep in mind that rescue dogs have been through a lot. The transition from foster home to their new forever home is another big change. Although the adjustment period is different for every dog, be patient as they learn to trust you and feel safe in their new environment.
