About
Due to the current situation with the COVID-19 (Corona) virus, in-person home visits are not possible at this time. Since this is a very important part of finding the best home for our dogs, we are not accepting any applications from first-time pet owners, applicants who have not had a pet in the past 3 years, or applicants who cannot furnish vet records. We hope you understand and that you will consider applying to adopt once restrictions have been lifted.
Fern is a good girl! She is sweet, quiet and gentle. She loves meeting new people, but can be overwhelmed with a lot of loud noise and rough housing. She seems good with kids, but gets scared when they run around to play, so older kids might be better for her.
She never barks, in fact the only noise she ever makes is when she’s ready to get out of her kennel. She loves her kennel and will go in easily. She sleeps well there overnight, but will sleep longer if the kennel is in the room with me. She is a little territorial about her kennel, so it’s best to keep it locked when she isn’t in it so other dogs can’t go in and take her things.
She seems to be a little more comfortable with male dogs and prefers the company of low-key dogs. She knows how to use the dog door, but will only go out if I go out with her. She’s had a couple of accidents in the house when I forgot to follow the schedule, but if you take her out first thing in the morning, after dinner and before bed, she’s good to go. She might start using the dog door on her own once she gets more settled in and comfortable.
Fern loves toys and will pounce on them like a cute little bunny when you throw them for her. She is gentle on a leash and gentle about taking treats and meals. She will chase birds and squirrels when out for walks, so it will be important to make she is securely leashed. I think she would prefer to be on the furniture to snuggle, but I’ve trained her to stay off and she’s on board with that. She gives the sweetest little kisses. She’s very good about letting me check her ears, mouth and feet. Whoever adopts Fern is going to be VERY lucky.
