Percy – Foster Needed!

About

🎈FOSTER NEEDED: Percy 🎈

We are in URGENT need of a foster for Percy! His current foster home was only intended to be temporary, so he needs a new home by Friday. When fostering, you supply the food, the grooming, and the love, while the rescue pays for all vetting. The foster family will have the right of first refusal if you happen to fall in love. So don’t let the “having to give him up” scare you away from an otherwise delightful boy.

If you are already an approved adopter or foster, please contact us at dfwcsr.adoptions@gmail.com.

If you would like to foster but you’re not yet approved, please submit a foster/adoption application (they’re the same), found on our website here: https://dfwcockerrescue.org/adoption-process/

🌻 Percy is our newest addition to the DFWCSR family. He comes to us from a home (way) down in south Texas. He’s a young adult, 3-4 years old, a gorgeous solid black with a long tail and a shiny coat. You’ll get an idea of his size relative to other cockers in one of the play videos I’ve included. We know he is a cocker mix, just no idea on what he’s mixed with. 🙂

He is a very friendly, playful, and energetic fellow. He loves walks, hikes and playing in the water. He loves to play with toys, like a pull toy, but can also entertain himself. Based on the play videos, he gets along well with other dogs.

Percy does best with a dog of playful and energetic temperament, or at least one who won’t mind such a playful partner. The original owners did not have children, so can’t say for sure how he would do. As a bigger dog, his jump may knock a smaller child down. Probably a home with older children (8+) would work.

Two things that Percy does not like are staying in a crate, and being left at home alone (even with the company of other dogs), so he would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time. He will bark when left home alone, so will probably not fit in well in a home with shared walls. He could also use some work on learning good manners, like not pulling on a leash when walking and not jumping on people. Because of the crate issue, he currently sleeps on his dog bed beside the foster, though he probably wouldn’t mind snuggling up with you in your bed if you’d like him to.

We were told that he is house-trained, though it may require some reinforcement. He’s only had a short stay in his foster home, so he may still be learning how to signal when he needs to go out.

Percy is described as being “super fun.” Do you think you might have room in your heart and home to foster this happy boy? If you are already an approved adopter or foster, please contact us at dfwcsr.adoptions@gmail.com.
