About
- SALLY IS CURRENTLY ON TRIAL
Sally is an adorable and energetic 2-year-old sable Cocker Spaniel at 27lbs. She has been with her foster family since June and throughout that time, she has been spayed, received cherry eye surgery, and essentially learned “how to be a dog” from scratch.
First, let’s discuss some things that Sally is good with! She is perfectly crate trained and sees her crate as a safe spot. She alternates between sleeping in the crate and sleeping under our table with a skirt because she feels hidden and safe. During her time here, Sally has been potty trained to use an indoor pee pad or go potty outdoors. She is socialized, behaves well with other doggy friends, but unknown with cats. She does well at the vet and is complimented by everyone as a “sweet girl”. Sally is also great being home alone and has never shown signs of separation anxiety.
Second, let’s discuss things she doesn’t do well with. Sally has severe anxiety and car sickness, but she has improved. She hates cars and will do best with a family that avoids road trips. Even aside from cars, Sally is a fearful cocker. Sudden movements, loud noises, physical touches – you have to be careful with every action. For example, she will tremble at thunder and must have her owner by her side during a storm.
Health-wise, Sally is young and healthy. She requires eye drops and heartworm prevention, as most cockers do, but overall she’s in great health.
Now, the fun part: personality! Sally is extremely playful and intelligent. She needs considerable exercise and mental stimulation. We use toys and tricks for enrichment. She loves chew toys and old socks. She also learns commands quickly. We taught her sit, down, hand, and she gets much fulfillment from learning new stuff.
It’s worth noting that her energy isn’t always high. Sally is usually asleep after her morning walk, from around 11am to 3pm. Then, she’ll show a daily burst of energy around 7-9pm. Affection-wise, Sally isn’t the world’s biggest cuddler. Although she is sweet, she won’t jump on the couch or lay in your lap. When she’s most excited, she’ll start hopping and wag her tail like her butt is about to fly off! Sally is also a vocal dog and will bark at the door bell or cry growls of joy when excited!
Sally’s foster family recommends a home without young kids as Sally tends to mouth during playtime (soft mouthing doesn’t hurt an adult, but it may accidentally pinch a young child). Additionally, Sally is best fed alone in an area with limited human or animal traffic. She has overall anxiety, leading to anxiety around a full food bowl which may trigger growling if a stranger or dog steps too close. Sally does not exhibit possessive aggression over humans, beds, toys, etc.
In summary, Sally is a sweet, intelligent cocker that loves playtime and family despite some anxiety developed from her past. At 2 years old, she has so much life ahead of her! Would you be willing to giving this girl a chance?
