My husband Gene, of 24 years, and Cookie's dad, unexpectedly passed away the Sunday before Thanksgiving at the age of 49. He was a loving husband, father and devoted companion to our DFWCSR pup, Cookie, who joined our family on February 25, 2010. Gene absolutely adored Cookie and would do anything for her. He would take her with him for a ride in the car to pick up our son from school and he would always buy her a new toy after her grooming appointments. Cookie and Gene started each day with a good round of tug-of-war and ended each day with a game of throw and fetch. We had a previous Cocker/Springer named Peaches for 14 years. We adopted her from an animal shelter and never thought there would be another one that could be as wonderful as she was… boy were we wrong. Cookie is every bit as wonderful as our first Cocker/Springer. Because DFWCSR has meant so much to our family, we asked friends and family to make donations to DFWCSR in memory of Gene. We at DFWCSR are very sorry for your family’s loss, thankful Cookie has such a wonderful new home and appreciative of your generosity.
